Peter Kwan, Senior VP (News) of Asia Television hold a talk entitled “The operation of 24/7 news channel” on the Department of Journalism and Communication’s general assembly at Hong Kong Shue Yan College on Tuesday. He pointed out that the development trend of media in the future will be the cross-media management. Similar content of information will be sent to the audience through different channels, this makes the value of content become more and more important.

Kwan deemed that people watch live news broadcast through 3G mobile phones is not a new thing now. If digital television broadcast is implemented, then people are likely to watch live television programs using 3G mobile phones in the next year. People receive similar media messages through different channels is the future trend. At that time, the media industry is expected to lower its production costs through cross-media operations. “Content is king,” said Kwan. In the future, people have more ways to receive information. Relatively, the content of information will become even more important.

Kwan said that people in the field of media should prepare themselves to face the challenges of new technology. To get used to the atmosphere of media convergence, not only the journalists should handle the techniques of writing and interviewing, they should also know how to make videos.
