Although mainland China is a potential market for developing magazine, Mabel Leung said the company will not develop the mainland market at this moment as it is hard to enter.

Mabel Leung, the managing director of MRRM Publishing LTD, said at the general assembly in Hong Kong Shue Yan University that mainland China is a potential market because of the huge population and vast territory. MRRM Magazine which is published monthly is one of the male magazines in Hong Kong.

She said when the Hong Kong editors attended the fashion shows in French or US, all the Chinese editors were sitting in the first row of the show. It reflected the editors of Chinese had certain influence in the market.

However, she thought it is hard to enter the mainland market. “The publishing industry in mainland is different from Hong Kong and it is more complicated in Mainland China” she said.

Without familiar with the mainland publishing market, there is difficult to tackle the market. Mabel said, the culture in China publishing industry is far different from Hong Kong.

Mabel said, the target customers are the groups of high purchasing power male with different classes in Hong Kong. The high-class magazines in Mainland China may be sold in the “ground stalls”.

She thought it was not suitable for MRRM magazine sold in the “ground stalls.”
