(Leung said "the emotional fluctuation and mental problems behind transgender people do make their lives precarious" which means they are under severe mental stress that require expeditious surgery no different from other serious ill patients. You should tell us Leung's personal experience to underscore the seriousness of it. She said she has tried to commit suicide 4 times.)

Transgender takes treatment in psychiatric hospital while it is not a psychiatric illness. Chairperson of Transgender Resource Center Joanne Leung Wing-yan said she is planning to establish a “sex acceptance group” in hospital.

Leung said she is communicating with the Hospital Authority and doctors in order to raise concerns on the issue, as in foreign countries like the USA, gender identity disorder is no longer in their psychiatric handbook.

Leung, born a man, did her sex-change surgery in 2004. She said citizens think sex reassignment surgery is not urgent and high-risk to the transgender people, while even cancer patients have not got enough resources.

However she thinks the emotional fluctuation and mental problems behind transgender people do make their lives precarious, therefore proper medical treatment is needed for the transgender.

Leung held a number of gatherings which allowed transgender to meet the heterosexual, who we called “normal” people, therefore to empower them and let them know they are admitted in the society.

She advised people to respect the transgender. “I see a lot of transgender heartbroken after they did the sex-change surgery. They cut off the relationship with their families and friends to get new life,” said Leung.
