The production officers of Hong Kong Diocesan Audio-Visual Center, Mr. Simon Au and Mr. Paul To shared their passion for live action film, motivating them to move along in the production process.

“You will eventually succeed in producing live action film with interest and passion,” said Mr. To. “Persistency and observation makes a live action film real,” Mr. Au added.

Their short live action film, “Monster and I”, has won the Signis Asia short film award. The film draws public attention on the seriousness of children abuse, leading to a psychological impact in the abused child.

The three production stages are pre-production, production and post-production. “Yet, a thorough research is crucial after all,” stressed Mr. To. “it creates a good storyboard in the pre-production stage. It also tells you what fit the film most.”

“To pursue a flawless, high-quality and real live action film, you will be “picky” in the producing stage. Also, you will not afraid of any bid,” said Mr. Au. “Just like we firstly used the Canon 5D digital camera for the production in our film, it works! You’ll never know without trying.”

Asked about the ways to learn the technical method in producing a 3D-animation film, Mr. To urged students to learn through books and online videos. “However, your interest and passion matters most.”
