“Applization” bring crisis to Hong Kong Media

Yi-ping Law, the Chief Editor of Finet, came to Hong Kong Shue Yan University and shared her points of view of the development of Hong Kong media. She criticized that the successful of Apple Daily in 1990s worsen the development of Hong Kong media and brought a new trend to the principle around Hong Kong media. “Hong Kong media are comparatively short-sighted and concern more about “interesting” than “importance” when handling news compared to other media.” Said by Law.
The seven-year experiences worked in Apple Daily, Law felt disappointed with the editorial policy of Hong Kong media. “The editor is shortsighted with future policy, he just want some information articles that interest readers like which shares would pump in the stock market on the next day”.
She praised journalists working in mainland are more hardworking than Hong Kong journalism even they have less freedom in reporting news. She claimed that the reason of market-orientated circumstances is more important that the political factors in Hong Kong in reporting news, it is not healthy for the development of Hong Kong media.
