Candy Lo appreciated the change and improvement of Media in China, yet there are still rooms for developing its openness and authoritative, said in Shue Yan University yesterday.

Candy Lo, the Deputy Chief Editor of Hong Kong China News Agency said working in News Agency is different from before. Looking back, being a journalist in China was very harsh, there were many deadlines to meet, and many boundaries being restricted. “Now China has a great improvement in the openness in reporting, which are shown in news articles about June 4 incident in recent years,” said Candy. She added, China doesnot lack of elites, “there are indeed many great reporters out there,” rather China lacks the time and space to reach the global standard.

Although media in China is still considered as being restricted and censored, “The development of media in China is vibrant, journalists are more free in reporting social issues,’ said Candy. She has the confident that China will be mature enough to compare with the news organization from overseas in the future.

Candy also mentioned, nowadays some news organizations in both Hong Kong and China uphold self-censorship, which violates the principle and freedom of journalists. She advised the journalists not to be affected by the authorities; they should maintain critical mind set and individual thoughts.
