“Hong Kong is undoubtably a part of China and therefore, there is a need to implement the national education curriculum which teaches children about their motherland” said Candy Lo, deputy chief editor of Hong Kong China News Agency.

A debate about Hong Kong separatism has erupted because of the problems with Hong Kong-mainland integration, but Lo opposed the thought. She believes Hong Kong is a city of China and everyone should acknowledge the fact.

“As a Chinese, Hong Kong people should recognize and understand the history, the cultural and the social issues of China” she said.

She was shocked when a senior reporter told her that he did not know Fuzhou is the capital city of Fujian province. She said: "It is only natural that the people understand their country".

She pointed out some national education opponents requested the government to withdraw the subject without looking into the curriculum guide. “They are against the subject as the other does,” she said.

She admitted “China is not a democracy country; however, we should give the time and room to it for democracy's development”.

She thought the freedom in China has changed gradually with time, for example, the news about the death of Li Wangyang was also come out from internet. Internet has enhanced the speech freedom.

She said, “Not only should we criticize the policy system in China, also wish and support it can be improved”.
