In order to call out for a genuine choice in election of city’s chief executive in 2017, political parties are suggesting different forms of universal suffrage, Spokesperson of Scholarism, Oscar Lai Man Lok, stated their ideas of 100,000 citizens’ nominations at Shue Yan University yesterday.

In response to the warning from the Basic Law Committee member Maria Tam Wai-chu, said the proposal of Scholarism which aims to let the public recommend candidates to a nominating committee was impractical, Lai admitted that their package might need some adjustment, so they would go to have a meeting with the members of United Nations at Geneva to discuss about their ideas of reform package, for example, the 100,000 citizens’ nominations changed into 40,000-50,000 citizens’ nominations. He also criticized that Maria Tam Wai-chu was only a “human microphone” of the Beijing Government.

When talking about the controversy on the donations to Scholarism, Lai said that they had received $900,000 donations from the public, but they spent most of it on printing publications and spreading it to different schools and renting places for having meeting with the members. He understood that the public may wonder how they spend the donations, so they will find professional accountants and auditors to check their accounts and put it to the public.
