“Tong Ying-yen lacks the political sense to lead Hong Kong,” commented Leung when he attended the university’s general assembly today. He pointed out that the extramarital issue shows that Tong has poor technique for handling scandals and dealing with the media.

He compared the performance of Tong to William Jefferson “Bill” Clinton, the former president of the United States, and Edmund Ho Hau-wah, the former chief executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, both of whom had been involved in the sex scandals and being criticized by the public. “Both of them handled the issue in a proper way, especially Ho Hau-wah; Tang Ying-yen should learn from them,” said Leung.

The rumor of Tong having extramarital affairs has been spread around the political circles for around a year. A few days after Tang resigned from the chief secretary position, he admitted that he had made mistakes in his love life and strayed from his wife. He then held a meeting with the press outside his house; however, the 35-second drama was called a “public relations show”, and did not ease the public's questions.
