“The competitive advantage of HK economy will be deteriorating within 5 to10 years,” said the Hon. LEUNG Chun-ying, GBS, JP, Member cum Convener of the Executive Council, Hong Kong yesterday afternoon in a weekly talk in Hong Kong Shue Yan University.

Since China opened her economy to others, the economy growth has increased rapidly. As a result, the competitive advantage in Hong Kong has been declined. It is because Hong Kong was no longer as “a middle man” to China. Leung explained, in the past, if the foreign country wanted to make business with China, they would cooperate with Hong Kong. Because Hong Kong has the superiority advantage: widen knowledge in China. However now compared with the past, Mainland China has the capital, technology and standing as she could directly contact with foreign country and make business with them without Hong Kong support.

Also, Leung stated that the recent labor policy in china threatened Hong Kong. He brought up a new word“china price”. It means that the selling prices in china are much lower than the other countries, approximately lower than the others about 90%. Thus, it shows that why Hong Kong manufactures had been declined in 90s.

At last, He suggested Hong Kong should do something to prevent the economy declining. He urged the government has the responsibility and authority to make the progress in economy and society. And he encouraged students take a longer sight and have a higher demand on the government’s role.
