Speaking at the assembly in Shue Yan University, Wong Ka Ho, sports reporter of Sing Tao Daily said reality is one of the most important elements in reporting.

“We try to create an atmosphere that audience can’t feel it when they’re watching videos or reading articles,” Wong said. As spending a month in Russia reporting news of World Cup 2018, he believes that sports news reporter should give audience a sense of “reality” which makes them to be a part of the environment.

“I asked myself questions before the trip started,” He added. He said that reporters always focus on how to ask good questions, but forget to ask themselves questions. “I have asked few questions for myself, for example how to connect with chinese people in Russia, what elements about football can I find there.”

Also, he said that doing successful interviews require sincereness and politeness. “Russian has been stereotyped as pugnacious, in fact, they are nice and open-minded if you talk to them sincerely and politely.

As Wong had to find out some interesting news during the World Cup, he said that being careful is also very important.

“Don’t be lazy. Try to walk around the streets and don’t play your phone”, he added. “One day we saw a painter drawing on the street, and then I searched his name on the internet. It surprised me as he is a famous painter from France.” After that, he interviewed the painter and a story was published on the Sing Tao Daily.

“There is no 100% success,” he said. He suggests teenagers try their best and never give up.
