“ Honesty is the Best way to Tackle crisis,” says Yip

Frankie Yip, Public Affairs Manager (External Relations), the Hong Kong Jockey Club, indicate students of Shue Yan University, lying is always the worst way to tackle the crisis, honesty and sincerity is the key for crisis management.

In 2002, SAR government introduced the accountability system. After the SARS accident and finance crisis, the accountability system is just exists in name only. The“Spin Doctors” become the an important and helpful partner who seek to maintain the government a good image. Frankie Yip praises Joseph Yam, Hong Kong Monetary Authority, that he gives a good example how to tackle the crisis by saying the truth.

He also points out that there are three ways how to tackle the crisis. First, don’t lie. The positive attitude is the key to face the problem, lying would make the matter worse. Second, using “self-explosion” solve the problem. Just like Joseph Yam, he did not want to expose his privacy to public. He chose to tell the other who is familiar to him, instead of pass though by the third party. It can reduce the occurrence of a scandal. Third, divert other’s attention. When the scandal was occurred, try to use the other thing to divert other’s attention.
