Creativity can be the first, the best or the difficult

The majority of people think that the creation of arts are now over-commercialized, permanent honorary president of Hong Kong Screenwriters’ Guild, Clifton KO Chi-Sun, claims that business and art are no conflicting but with a tight correlation between them.

“Try something new, don’t repeat from others.” Ko insists. As a production unit, exploring new things is the best way to improve.

“In the past years, the producers only focused on the viewpoint of the audience but lack of its own creativity.” Ko sighed.

He said the production time of the film is getting shorter and shorter. “I’ve heard some of film production use only 12 days to finish.” He feels shocked and unbelievable.

“Creativity is the re-combination of elements,” He quoted Wong Jim. The audience are not willing to watch the things they read before anymore. He illustrates producing songs as an example. Ko likes the songs in the past years as the music range was wide and smooth. However, in recent years the songs become “K song style” which means the purpose of producing a song is for audience to sing in Karaoke rather than a singer performs.

“Think twice before you act,” Ko adds, “Creativity can be the first, the best or the difficult.” He encourages people to adopt new things and learn from the past.
