(You must be mistaken when you said "there are 9-12 pages in their monthly magazines". How could a magazine with only 12 pages be called a magazine. It sounded like a pamphlet to me. What Leung said was that the cover story usually had about 8 to 12 pages of content, pictures included. You should also give us examples of what kind of social media that Leung was utilizing. She mentioned Facebook and Weibo.)

Marbel Leung: Monthly mag for quality not quantity

Mabel Leung, Managing Director of MRRM Publishing, said that monthly magazines focus on quality contents instead of quantity of articles in a talk in Shue Yan University.


Mabel Leung said that monthly magazines are very different from other printed media, she said whether weekly publications like Next Magazine and East Magazines may have numerous articles per week, monthly magazine has less articles with depth and the layout is very different, she added that there are 9-12 pages in their monthly magazines. Leung said that they would like to create “after taste” for readers, and targeted on having distinct style in the industry, “we want to identify our publication out of the others on the MTR,” she said.


Leung also said that MRRM utilizes social media website to serve as supplement of printed version, “there are limitation with print media, like the timeliness,” the fast changing culture of social media website brings MRRM challenges, Leung said that they need to employ specialized writers and consultant for online content, and the online platforms allow different day-by-date news like shop sales and openings that may not be so common on printed version. Leung said that expanding to social media platforms allow better content and more choices to readers and advertisers.
