Med Ads Regulations Should Be Updated

“Regulations on medical advertisements should make changes”, says Dixon Wu, director of medical program production company.

Wu said that there are two books from the broadcasting authority for medical advertisements in TV programs, regulating advertising doctors and medicines, Wu said that these rules are being made for more than a decade, which cannot fits the current situation of media.

“There isn’t Facebook in 10 years ago, but now has,” Wu said that the regulations are focus on traditional broadcasting media, or print ads, and in some case, pharmaceutical companies or doctors are not making advantage of grey zone, but simply because they can’t interpret those rules in today’s situation.

Wu listed like bus media, mobile ads on apps, and status on Facebook, which cannot be easily regulated by current code of practice or laws, and these regulations should have changed.

Wu added that as a production company, the found some pharmaceutical companies promised to use promotional videos internally but later on put public, and they have to protect the interests and rights of doctors from these violating acts.
