Reported by Yam Yi Hang (17/9/2013)

Loh Chan, the C.E.O of Digital Broadcasting Corporation (DBC), claimed that the major shareholder, who is also a member of the PRC CPPCC National Committee, Bill Wong Cho Bau backed the idea of having a neutral news channel of their own.

"Bill Wong agreed to run a news channel in DBC, emphasizing that it needs to be operated impartial and unbiased way." Loh said during the general assembly held by Department of Journalism and Communication of Hong Kong Shue Yan University in the afternoon. "We are different with Wen Wai Po, Ta Kung Po or Apple Daily. Sometimes newspapers have their stands of view, but DBC just focus on reporting facts. Judgement making should be left to audience."

The radio station actually didn't have a channel for news reporting before its temporary closure last year. Loh revealed that DBC before used to purchase news material from other media groups, which is mainly used for hourly news bulletin. However, with the emergence of their own news channel, these all now became history.

Loh also stated that the new news channel is currently in beta phase, and also admitted that their current news team only retained a small number of experienced reporter and zero assignment editor. Loh accounted that DBC will keep strengthen their squad and looking forward to form a first 24-hour radio news channel in Hong Kong in the near future with the belief of "The content is king". The C.E.O believed that DBC will be able to attract audience by providing high quality of reportings.

Besides DBC, RTHK, Phoenix U Radio and Metro Broadcasting are also making use of the new digital broadcasting technique, DBC possessed most of the channels with 7 channels on air.
