He emphasized that the Liaison Office has played an important role in bridging the gap between Hong Kong and China. ; actually it has five functions to execute ‘one country, two system’ in Hong Kong, and to harmonize the Hong Kong society.
In the logo of LOCPG, there are five lines in the centre means five functions of LOCPG. One of its functions is to help mainland organizing functions in Hong Kong, such as the visit of Yang Liwei and Shenzhou 5. Besides, the colored string means mainland and Hong Kong are inseparable and “one country, two system”.
“In fact, in these ten years, it’s not the comfort working path of LOCPG as the bridge because of bird flu and SARS ect, in Hong Kong, but we gain a lot of valuable experience.” Wang said.
He said that the Liaison Office will continue to implement the principle of “one country, two systems”, to strictly obey the basic law and to support the Hong Kong Government positively in the future in order to maintain the prosperity of Hong Kong.
Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R. was established in 1947 in the name of Xin-hua News Agency which is an organ of the Central People's Government of the People's Republic of China, responsible for liaisons with the People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison and the Office of the Commissioner of the Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong. For these years, the Liaison Office has experienced in a lot of big events in Hong Kong including “1967 Leftist Riots”, signing “Sino-British Joint Declaration”, participating in “The Handover” and so on. No wonder Mr. Wang said that the Liaison Office was a witness of the change in Hong Kong.
