ATV causes the degradation of TV productions

The quality of the production of Hong Kong television programs has been criticized as being dull and repetitious. Senior journalist, Ng Yu, said that it is actually the fault of ATV, “The development of the television programs is stagnant, it is not the fault of TVB although it has much more viewers, in fact, ATV should be held responsible for the degradation of TV production,” said Ng, when attending a seminar with other senior TV producers. The seminar was held at Hong Kong Shue Yan University this afternoon.

It is believed that the TV productions of the mainland are boring and restrained, however, recent years, Hong Kong television programs are being criticized for being less interesting than the mainland programs, especially the Variety Shows. Ng commented that ATV causes the degradation of TV productions because it seldom makes efforts to develop high quality TV programs, and this makes TVB has less incentives to do better to compete with ATV. The whole TV industry becomes tedious. [Good explenation]

Independent senior TV producer Chin Guo Wai suggested that Hong Kong should learn from the mainland, “The mainland producers are very serious and spend a lot of time on every TV shows. They even ask the artists to come to rehearsals a month earlier before the show.” He added that the mainland TV stations are also willing to pay ten times more than Hong Kong’s for the production expenditures.

Chin said that on the other hand, mainland productions have their limitations. For example the instruction order set by the Chinese Government, which restricted the contents of the TV shows. It is to make sure that there are no messages embedded to against the Communist Party.

The producer of Now Mango Yeung Yum Ho promoted Now Mango. He stressed that although the Hong Kong TV productions are less attractive than the mainland’s, no one can ensure that all mainland TV shows are suitable for the Hong Kong TV viewers. He said the Now Mango can be a wise chooser and select the high quality TV programs for Hong Kong people. Subscribers only need to pay for HKD 18 per month to enjoy this service. [This concluding paragraph is not really neccessary, and also leaves wat Now mango is somewhat ambiguous.]
