ATV is confident in extending its TV license

(The potential crisis is not caused by the license renewal application itself since the licenses of both ATV and TVB will expire by November 2015 and the Broadcasting Authority is reviewing the applications and will make a decision by this coming November, next month, that is. The crisis for ATV is its low viewership ratings and the poor quality of its shows.)


Chris Kwong -- The free TV broadcaster Asia Television Limited(ATV) is now facing a potential crisis, as it's free TV license will get expire next year. However, the Assistant Vice President of ATV Chiu Yue Keung, said today they are confident in extending their free TV License, since the TV programme of ATV will have a boom in the upcoming year.


The government is now carrying out a public consultation towards the license extend approval. Chiu said the major obstacle for ATV is not from it's main rival TVB, but from the capital source and generating brand new idea. "TVB got nothing but money, they always steal idea from our programme," said Chiu. Chiu explained he hopes ATV could produce high quality programme with limited production cost, in order to gain back public attention, since the popularity of most TVB programme are from pop idols, "they need not idea but actors," Chiu adds.


While the online broadcaster HKTV by Ricky Wong is going to deliver it's channel through Internet. Chiu said the future development of ATV would also focus on smartphone application, as ATV already had rights for broadcasting jockey races and local soccer competitions. Chiu hopes to gain more ratings from online TV, after eliminating the technical problem of smartphone broadcast.--125132 2014年10月7日 (二) 17:16 (UTC)
