ATV thinks out of the box

An official of ATV says they must think out of the box to change the status of ATV but not become another TV station like TVB by copying.

ATV Executive Vice President Dewy Ip had ever been working in TVB for a long period but he leave and joined the rival company last year. When he joined ATV, many people made fun of his “foolish” decision but he disagreed. “Standing back is the preparation for moving forward in my future,” says Ip. “My ultimate dream is to promote and stimulate ATV from a weak TV station over a long period of time.”

Ip points that there is lack of team spirit in ATV due to the constantly changing of leadership. From his experience, he worked for some fresh foreign TV stations and started from zero but he describes working for ATV as “starting from negative” which is more difficult than any new TV stations.

After Ip took over the leadership of ATV, he thought ATV needs to create new programmes and bears the social responsibility. He criticized that TVB remains unchanged on programming, so it’s hard to get improvement of creations. Accordingly, ATV became the first local TV station which gave up second string programme in prime time and replaced with variety shows and 1.5 hour-long programmes.

With the Olympics coming in August, everyone is talking about the Olympics in Beijing but Ip emphasized that there will be a Olympic event in Hong Kong, too. Therefore, ATV puts a lot of resources and pays much attention to equestrian event. “To compete with TVB, we will have a group of professional hosts for Olympics such as experienced hostress Priscillia Ku, Jerry Lamb, 1996 Olympic gold medal-winning professional windsurfer Lee Lai-shan and also a secret weapon but not public now.”
