Ivan Yau, a former anchor of TVB believed emotion controlling is of utmost importance to be a successful reporter. He said tolerating the unbearable brutal scene is unavoidable sometimes.

“Being the journalist, one should be devoted and dedicated in this field,” said Yau. He said it is crucial for reporters to deliver “the newest and the most reliable information to audience. He said, “We are the frontline to witness the unbearable and bloody scene.”

To deal with such intolerable circumstances, “reporters should pacify their emotion, it is important to control overwhelming emotion and provide audiences with the objective information,” said Yau. The emotion stability and information accuracy are the keys in reporting.

He deemed that accuracy is the “ABC”, meaning the basic element of finishing an assignment. Good quality is not only about being accurate but more importantly, to digest the complex messages before airing or broadcasting.

To be successful journalists or reporters, he concluded by saying, “If you want to pursue your journalist career, patience, good attitude as well as persistence are the keys for you to open the door.”
