Stephen Quinn, digital development editor of SCMP, showed a good example that you could present a good live broadcast within twenty minutes, at Shue Yan University yesterday.

Quinn said, “smart phone helps in the development of mobile journalism, you simply download an apps in your smart phone with simple equipment, then, you can easily finish a live broadcasting.”

He showed a video done by a student in Whistler during the previous Olympic game. During the video, the interviews, VO and the photos only took twenty minutes to finish.

BBC tried to use mobile phone as the tools for live broadcast in 2007, because of the bad quality, it did not fit for live broadcast. However, the development of iphone, made the speed and quality improve a lot. Stephen said, “ iphone4S can be used to take HD video, who can predict what can be improved in the next generation of smart phone.”

Stephen admitted that using smart phone for interview was better than the traditional equipment, because the subject would not know you were recording.

As the development of smart phone, all citizens could be a journalist. They could provide information or news to the reporter by exchanging with bonus. “this method is acceptable because no one will ever give out something freely,” Quinn said.
