As seven channels from DBC began to broadcast yesterday, the C.E.O. Loh Chan said DBC would aim at creating enriching programs for the elderly and ensuring a fair news channel in future.

In Hong Kong, the population of those aged 65 or above is expected to reach over 100 million, Loh said, and DBC hoped to attract this large group by cooperating with the social welfare organizations, so that elderly could enjoy a discount in buying the DAB digital radio or getting it in free.

He said, the advanced system in medical treatment enabled people to live longer, therefore, the elderly would be more concerned about health and medicine, and programs about these two topics would be offered so that elderly could have more knowledge in take care of them.

Loh said, before the shareholder arguments, there was no news channel in DBC, however, new shareholders want such content 24 hours. He said, DBC would devote more resources in news production rather than just buying news from others TV channels to make their program more diverse.

One of the shareholders of DBC Wong Cho Bau is a member of the national committee, Loh said, in order to avoid any suspicious, Wong would not join the board of directors and DBC had their code of production and ethics, so that different opinions could also include in their channels.

“We would assure an impartial news channel, if there are any complaints, you can phone to me at any time.” Said Loh.
