A new way of getting feedback from audience

No one can escape from the trend of social media, including the traditional media. Casey Ko, Planning Editor of i-CABLE News Limited (“i-Cable”) and Wallance So, the Associate Editor of i-Cable gave a talk in Shue Yan about i-Cable using new media, i-CABLE has started to use Facebook to communicate with the audience since 2012, it even established a channel on instant message application, Whatsapp, to make a broadcast to the audience during a live TV broadcast. It could get instant feedback from them and guests response to it immediately.

Ko said, i-Cable has started using Whatsapp to get instant feedback from audience in a live TV broadcast since early 2014. Whatsapp provides a broadcast function to get feedback from each individual privately. “Audience had contact us (the phone number of) first, we accumulated the contact list by this after a period of time. They became the regular audience of this programme.” Ko said. He explained that those audiences like typing word to express their questions, feeling and thoughts, but they do not like to speak by sound and take video. He believed it is another way of “phone-in”, instead of calling phones. And the invited guests and host respond those questions in live immediately.

He added, it has started a new section, for audience to give emoji (the cartoon of different feeling and thought), like thumb-up and down for its opinion poll. Wallance So also said, it is great to build up relationship with audience and good to establish a bridge for communication.

i-Cable is a paid tv network. It has started using Facebook to spread news, communicate with audiences since 2012.
