Ricky Wong, the CTI Chairman, claimed that he wanted to build up ‘a whole new world’ in the television field during the seminar held on this Tuesday at Shue Yan University.

The television field in Hong Kong has long been known as a TVB monopoly. However, affected by the government policy of releasing new license plates, the situation would change in no time. Wong said that he was aimed at re-building the order in the field. He had already recruited half of the talents in the TVB production team. He believed that a good production team stood for good qualities.

Facing the criticizes about boring soap operas, former TVB script writer Suen Ho Ho pointed out the reason that he had no real power on deciding the script in TVB. Script writers could just follow the guidelines given by the management team. The room for creativity had been tightly compressed. The current broadcasting soap opera, ‘The Hippocratic Crush’, would be one of the examples.

“Greater freedom does not stand for an absolute freedom,” said Ricky Wong. He emphasized that although a greater degree of freedom would be allowed in his company, his role as a businessman would still give priority to making profits. Thus, dramas of sensitive theme would not be his option.

Wong was planned to invest HKD$ 2-2.5 billion in the business. Using bbTV as an example, Wong stated that at least 5 years would be needed for profits.
