Albert Cheng said Digital Broadcasting is the future for radio and that online radio is also a huge potential market.

Digital Broadcasting Corporation (DBC) went back on air yesterday, but without the founder Cheng running it.

Cheng established D100, which is an online radio on 17 May. He said after running DBC, he found the audiences would search news and listen to radio online. Online radio can act some digital broadcasting’s functions. For example, he can post a news photo online during the host talking about the news.

He said "Images transferring is powerful."

He gave an example of an “egg cake” hawker who was arrested by members of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department. When audiences heard the host said the hacker was arrested, they can refer to the images which were posted online.

Another benefit of online radio is that there is no district barrier. He found that the audiences of D100 were from many countries such as Germany, Mainland, and Holland etc.

“Online radio is not the main radio broadcast and I have to open a new chapter in radio”. He said. “I will launch 4 new channels of D100. One is included news and traffic reporting.”

In the future, there will be 4 channels of D100, which are the Main Channel, Music channel, Putonghua Channel and English Channel. Cheng thought Putonghua and English Channels are potential channels since the target market are overseas market.
