Local radio stations have long been stuck with the old ways in both hardware and software and online radio D100 was made to break the dull consistency, said Albert Cheng, founder of Digital Broadcasting Corporation Hong Kong Limited (DBC), in HKSYU today.

Being one of the founders of the newly- emerged online radio station D100, Cheng said due to the fact that the government could only afford to give out a limited amount of radio licenses, Hong Kong- an island with seven million citizens are only able to enjoy broadcast programs from three radio stations; therefore, D100 hopes to be another easily-accessible choice for Hong-Kongers.

‘ When we look back to the past few years, we could observe that the three stations still remain conservative in making forward progress in hardware and software development, ’ Cheng said.

On the contrary, Cheng added that D100 will fully make use of internet, social networks and smartphone applications in near future to distribute diverse kinds of visual and audio contents to the public by one click or even one call ahead.

‘ As audiences are able to connect to our station by making one single phone call, we are at the same time negotiating with people from telecom servicing to see whether we could collaborate to launch a speaker-linked house phone in which the oldies and housewives could easily get our programs in live, ’ said Cheng.
