Albert Cheng, former inverter of the Digital Broadcasting Corporation Hong Kong Limited (DBC), admitted that he has fewer burdens when forming his online radio platform D100.

Cheng was one of the founders for DBC in 2008; there was a dispute among the shareholder last year which led to the shutdown of the DBC broadcast. He formed the online radio channel “D100” in December last year, and is planning for further development.

“The internet has given a way out for us, it is an interactive and real time media,” said Cheng. Being a guest speak at a seminar in the Hong Kong Shue Yan University yesterday afternoon, Cheng believes that the development for online radio is unlimited.

“We are developing ‘telephone radio’ at the moment, mainly target audiences of older generation. Though we are currently doing a pre-launch for 90 days, I have planned that there would be a total of 4 radio channels and provide a full service to the audiences, including a family channel, politics, music, weather report and traffic news,” said Cheng.

Cheng denied that the DBC crisis happened last year was due to poor business management. “People would not buy the company if there is really a problem in management; I believe the money spent was an ‘investment’. I don’t think anyone could earn profits once a company is started.”
