The vice chairman of Money Magazine (China) Alex Fan believes that the trigger point of US-China trade war is not in a trade dispute.

Alex Fan states that the trigger point of the Sino-U.S. Trade war lies in the end of the U.S. economic expansion period and the increasing pressure on China's economic transformation. From the perspective of the United States, the economic development in 1900 has begun to take off, the economy has developed to a certain extent, and it is a developed country in the 21st century. The United States is now worried that its period of economic expansion is coming to an end, so it decided to adopt policies to suppress its potential threat, China.

On the Chinese side, the status of the “world factory” has been shaken. China has begun to lose its “low-cost” competitiveness and is facing the pressure of economic restructuring. However, its knowledge industry development is not as good as that of the United States. Alex states that there are three main reasons for thinking that the United States is going to war with China: First, it is hoped that through negotiations, China's tariffs can be reduced and Chinese goods made cheaper. Second, they hope to reduce the trade barriers of American companies and protect the business environment of American companies. Finally, they hope to create a level playing field. The main reason the United States opened a trade war was to increase the export competitiveness of local enterprises through negotiations.

Earlier the US government blocked Chinese mobile phone brand Huawei and banned US companies from doing business with them. It is believed that Huawei is the a symbol of relationship between China-US competition and cooperation. In addition, Huawei holds 5G technology, which is one of the major bargaining chip that China and the United States can share and cooperate with. For US technology companies, in terms of business talk, they do not want to lose development opportunities. He expects that the United States will continue to attack technology companies in the Mainland.
