(( Like most other students, you have failed to give us a comprehensive geographical information about the Lantau Island. For example, what is the total area or the size of the island as compared to the Hong Kong Island and how far is it from the HK Island? You should have a mental map in your head and explain it by putting it in words to help your readers to understand the situation. For example, Lantau Island is 85% larger than Hong Kong Island and is situated at the south west of the territory where the future Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge might bring in huge numbers of tourists. Without these information, readers might not grasp fully what you mean by a good development plan for the Lantau Island, like organizing trade fairs or building more hotels and other tourist facilities.)

Allen Ha: “We don’t think increase of visitors is beneficial, but it’s contradictory.”

Number of mainland SAT candidates have been soaring these years, which has brought a new source of visitors to Asia World-Expo and the surrounding regions. Allen Ha, Chairman of Lantau Development Alliance and Chief Executive Officer of Asia World-Expo Management Limited, has a different point of view. He thought that there is lack of supporting facilities, even though there are plenty of visitors, and hence, districts other than Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai cannot be benefited from it. He thought that the mismatch of resources is contradictory per se.

“Most of the mainland visitors aggregate in Canton Road.” He complained.

He said in Shue Yan University yesterday that it is no need to build new facilities in Lantau Island, but to make use of them. Most hotels near Asia World-Expo in Lantau Island are belongings of several major developers, which may not fulfill the demand.”

“Eighty percent of the SAT candidates come from mainland, and the exam is held for more than one time a year. These candidates create great demand for tourism.” He added.

However, competitors from foreign countries like Singapore also want to take the opportunity.

“We would not change the expo into a five star mall, but a three star one.” He explained, “The existing facilities can be redeveloped so as to attract these visitors, who now just stay in Tsim Sha Tsui. The other regions can also have supporting facilities to decentralize the tourists.”
