Hong Kong, Oct. 11th –“Nowadays, news are market-oriented. We need to write special news to attract people.” said Lam Chiu Wing, a current affairs columnist, during his speech for the general assembly of Shue Yan University.

Lam, who worked for different newspaper such as the Ming Pao and the Economic Daily in Hong Kong, pointed that columnists were selling new ideas. “Only unusual news can attract people. Readers like to read the views that they cannot find in other newspapers. You can call it alternative news” He likes to write his column after reading others’ because it is easier for him to share new ideas with the readers.


Recently, many front pages of the newspaper reports news which is interesting and alterative rather than important-rewrite). For example, Apple Daily once published a report on a monopoly game at Macdonald’s. Newspaper owners or editors report special news to attract readers since it helps them earn more advertising revenue.
