An Amnesic Teen Creates a Brighter Life

Hong Kong, Nov. 29 –Imagine that one day you wake up and you realize you lose all your memories, what can you do? William Chan Chun-ho who had Amnesia answers it is not the end of the world; on the contrary, this is just the beginning of a new life.


William Chan, the Hong Kong Youth Exchange Promotion United Association Executive Director, attended the general assembly of Journalism & Communication Department at Hong Kong Shue Yan University this afternoon, and shared his life post-amnesia.


William used to be an outstanding student who got full marks in Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination; he was also ((obtained to be a medical student)) in Cambridge University. However, a car accident in England caused William to lose all his memories in the past 19 years, including his parents, family, friends, and knowledge.


“On 12th May, 2003, the day I became amnesic, was my new birthday, I was reborn,” said William. “I used to be arrogant and a slave for achievements, but after I lost my memories, my original personality were all gone, my new mind changed my life significantly.”


Although William could not remember anything of his past, his family and friends gave him a lot of love and support, to help William rebuild his confidence, and find back his position.


One day, William realized that “I don’t want to act like a patient, I want to contribute something to our city,”. He started by being a volunteer in youth education when he was still a University student.


William’s ambition before the accident happened was to become a doctor. But now, he established the Hong Kong Youth Exchange Promotion United Association after (x) graduated from his Sociology degree.


“My life-long mission is to help teenagers to find their dream and interests in order to have a better life. That’s what I want,” said William.


William shared his motto to us, “The best way to predict the future is to create the future,” with a bright smile, “maybe I started off late. But If I put harder effort on my running, I can run faster than anyone.”
