Applelization corrupts media, Commercial kills articles

An experienced journalist was disappointed that Hong Kong media are short-sighted and concern on interest than significance, due to commercial reasons to attract readers and advertisers.

Yi-ping Law, Chief Editor of Finet, pointed that more news articles are “killed” in Hong Kong comparing with China. “Hong Kong media are influenced by commercial reasons than political cencorship after 1997.” She said media in mainland don’t fear about any advertisers because of numbers of stable readers but Hong Kong doesn’t.

Law praised Hong Kong is a leading role of international finance with New York and London, yet media are not good enough. She critized that local newspaper lacks ethics to report especially Apple Daily, the company she had worked for 7 years, is making readers retarded. But unfortunately, all local newspapers trend to this immoral and popular newspaper and they are corrupted by “Applelization”.

News blackout is not rarely seen in mainland but Law believes that the freedom of the press has been improving in China as journalists in mainland are very hardworking under a series of restraints. “Comparing with China, journalists in Hong Kong are very lucky and blessing!”, Law emphasized.

Olympics on coming August, Law believes new media may be borned and will show the importance of each media in this century. The cooperation between Hong Kong and mainland will increase and explored new circumstances.
