Miss S. Alice Mong, the Executive Director of Asian Society Hong Kongshared her view on preserving Hong Kong Heritage with students in Hong Kong Shue Yan University yesterday.Mong said that Asian Society Hong Kong need to balance between their mission and the commercial interest. Mongfurthered that the admission fee of the center is low and it is rent for non-profit organizations. She said that ‘we have stores, a popular restaurant on site.’

‘Heritage living or dead?’Mong asked. She thought that heritage were not museums only, for example the memories about war from grandparents were heritage. She encouraged students to think what’s preserving and what are worth preserving. Everybody may have different definition.

When talk about the responsibility of government, she raised out the example of US Government, that it preserve the Grand Central Station after people protested on street. She emphasized that government need to hear the voice from people and in term people need to tell government what they want to preserve.

However, Mong admitted that exhibits and the performance showed there are not Hong Kong oriented enough. And they were trying their best to add more elements related to Hong Kong. --115126 2013年3月6日 (三) 00:11 (UTC)
