Chan Ching Man 30, October 2012

Having worked as a journalist for years, Candy Lo, the Deputy Chief Editor of Hong Kong China News Agency, said the that journalist should be fair to any kinds of news they counter with.

“Professional journalist need to be fair to all kinds of news, we need to judge the situation and environment when we counter with a piece of news, ” said Candy Lo at the seminar of Shue Yan University yesterday.

“As a Chinese enterprise, many people may think that Hong Kong China News Agency used to have a certain stand point towards China. We actually worked very hard to maintain the fairness and accuracy of our news,” Lo said.

“For example, in 2010, the Chinese government blocked the news of Liu Xiao Bo after he won the Nobel Prize. We still sent the related news material to the media as usual because we need to provide all kinds of news to the media, ” she added.

Expect having a fair attitude to different kinds of news, Lo reminded that journalists should have a deeper understand to the outside world.

“If you are not familiar to the world, you cannot write good news,” she said. She recommended students in the seminar to absorb thorough knowledge from books instead of newspaper and websites.
