The key to be a successful spokesperson is to be part of strategy team and use different media platforms skillfully, shared Scott Robinson, spokesman of the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau.

Scott Robinson gave a speech of "A Responsible Press Office in the Digital Age" with students in Hong Kong Shue Yan University yesterday. As a spokesperson of U.S. Consulate General, he needs to deal with media. He said that he needs to strive balance that he need to be reactive fulfilling the needs of the media and be proactive seeking out media sharing message.

Utilizing different social media platforms is of vital important. He said that the U.S. government relies on social media to get the message out. More and more government turning social media like Facebook and Weibo to make their announcements heard every day. Moreover, many of their colleagues got twitter and Weibo accounts to share the updated news from the department and their daily life. Although he admired that they can get feedback in very fast speed, they also got quite a lot criticism from the social media platform.

Being in the strategy team is the basic requirement; he added that to be outstanding, the communication must be relevant to the people. For instance, the U.S. president Barack Obama has launched a national travelling campaign and he created different methods to promote it, like allowing people applying Visa through convenience store seven-eleven.
