Ngai Kai Kwong, chief editor of Sing Pao Daily, said that the modification made on article wrote by Mr Johnny Lau last year was all his fault and had nothing to do with Beijing. Besides, he argues that Sing Pao would not become a mainland mouthpiece.

Mr Ngai shared his view on the future of the press in Hong Kong Shue Yan University yesterday. Last year, the article written by Mr Johnny Lau was modified in large amplitude and published by Sing Pao. Someone doubts that this was due to the pressure by Beijing. However, Mr Ngai said it was Sing Pao’s fault and it was his fault. He had ordered his colleagues to modify the article. He believed the mistake was due to the miscommunication between him and his colleagues. He felt sorry for it and he promised this would not happen again.

On the other hand, Sing Pao established its media center in Guangzhou a few years ago and it also changed the words of its website into Simplified Chinese. When asked if Sing Pao going to change into a newspaper for mainland, Mr Ngai denied that Sing Pao is changing into a mainland newspaper. He emphasized that Sing Pao would still concentrate on the news in Hong Kong while trying to develop that in mainland. --115126 2013年2月24日 (日) 22:45 (UTC)
