Better pay, better performance

TV actor exclaims for the better quality of infotainment programmes produced by mainland firms.

By Anthony Wong

HKSYU, APR 10- No matter how familiar local actors feel in Hong Kong, the temptations of high salary and wide exposure in mainland is more irresistible to them.

Wong Hei, a TV actor, revealed the current price of mainland companies hiring Hong Kong actors to attend infotainment programmes in a promotion seminar co-conducted by Now Mango Channel and Shue Yan University.

‘ For an ordinary actor like me, paying 60 thousand Renminbi to hire me is not uncommon, excluding other costs of, let’s say, round trip tickets of first class flights, hotel rents and fees pay for the supporting team. The minimum cost is almost 100 thousand Renminbi, which is unimaginable in Hong Kong,’ said Wong.

However, what actors have to pay for, according to Wong, is that, they have to arrive there and prepare a day beforehand.

‘In Hong Kong, actors might have only half an hour before the recording. In contrast, crews of mainland TV stations most probably would compromise the run-down with you when you have arrived the hotel. The longer the preparation, certainly the better the performance of artistes,’ added Wong.

In addition, attending mainland programmes might gain more attention from potential investors for the population of mainland China is far greater than that of Hong Kong.

‘Actors calculate before every decision. They absolutely would choose to attend shows with wider audience,’ said Wong.
