The living environment of Hong Kong citizens has a great change between 80th century and nowadays. Birdy Chu, a photographer and director, had a talk in Hong Kong Shue Yan University, claimed that it is weird that Hong Kong’s seems moving backwards.

Birdy Chu’s productions have been selected into different awards such as Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennial Awards finalist, The 6th Hong Kong Independent Short Film & Video Awards 2000 and the 2004 Aquent Calender.

Hong Kong is my home

In the previous production of Chu, Chu said that Hong Kong is his home and he also claim that Hong Kong may not be his home. This contradiction is come from the mind that he loves Hong Kong but he thinks that Hong Kong is becoming a different place to him. “All different places that I travelled before would like to keep their traditional lifestyle. However, Hong Kong culture seems moving backwards, all the traditional things in Hong Kong is disappearing.”, Chu said, “What can the 30,000 point of Hang Seng Index improve our daily life? I cannot see any of it.”

The higher power, the higher responsibility

For Chu, photography is one of the way for him to protect Hong Kong. “Just like Spiderman, I am not telling you that I am very talented but I would like to give my limited power to record Hong Kong.” Chu said. Chu also claimed that different traditional products also still be useful to people in nowadays. For example, film may be replaced by digital devices but it is still used by the police since it is much safer and cannot be edited. Therefore, Chu thinks that these traditional culture should be protected.--155105 2018年1月30日 (二) 17:51 (CST)
