Recently, the incident of Bo Xilai, the former secretary of Chong Qing party has led to a great disturbance in China. Although the case still hasn’t come to an end, Liu Wei Zhong, the chief editor of Bauhinia Magazine thinks it will anyways benefit China democratically.

“In the past, things were controlled by the government in a lot of different aspects politically,” said Liu, during a speech in Shue Yan University yesterday, describing China’s situation in the 60s and 80s. He pointed out that comparing to the past, China is now improving, “The incident of Bo Xilai is a sign showing that China is moving to democratization and legalization.” As it is the first time of the Chinese government to do such a public investigation of a senior government officer, Liu thinks China is dealing the incident properly. He also revealed that he had received some confidential information about the case. But when he was asked to say more about the Bo Xilai incident, Liu seemed to be a bit reluctant, “It is a sensitive topic and it would be difficult to give comments.” “But it is true that the democracy of China is changing, “emphasized Liu.

On the other hand, Lui has also mentioned the change of relationship between mainland China and Hong Kong, “In the past, Hong Kong was always superior to mainland. But under the rapid economic growth of mainland, mainland’s level is now similar to Hong Kong’s.” As the contact of the two places nowadays is more active, Liu hopes that Hong Kong and mainland can do more to strengthen their relationship, so that they can achieve a win-win situation.
