HONG KONG,Dec 11-The chief of the Broadcasting Authority expressed worry over the future of the new coming TV channels.

Raymond R. Wong, the Chairman of the Broadcast Codes of Practice Committee, said at a college seminar that, he was worried that HKTV head Ricky Wong cannot succeed in news and and public affairs programming after investing HK$3 billion.

“$3 billion is only a small amount to a station, I am worried that they can stand still to the next year,” said Wong.

The war over TV-stations and its new licenses is in a raging situation. Publics are urging for new channel so as to get rid of the dominance of the single channel (Residual TV rating).

A former head of the TVB News department, Wong condemned the HKTV attitude toward news program.

“News is the soul of the TV channel, without news, where can u find the soul of that channel?” He criticized.

The current stations showed negative views towards the new licenses and claimed it will cause a destructive competition. Wong denied the statement. “We always have the competition!” he said.

Wong explained he never found out there is a “positive completion” between two competitors. He said, the stations cannot blame all the causes of failure to the government or the new licenses.

“Like the child-born service, we never promised you can give birth to your kid!” Wong said.

He explained, the government approved the licenses, they never promised the station will be profitable. He said, the successfulness or failure of a station should depend on the management.

”A station can have a rapid change of the management and have no actual progress, so who goes wrong?” he exclaimed.
