Ivan Yau, corporate communication manager of Sino Group, yesterday said the developers in Hong Kong should prevent misleading information in the sales brochure regarding the recent disaster of Oceanaire. “We put one hundred percent effort at the beginning,” Ivan Yau said. “We are required to stand on the side of customers, thinking of necessary information they need.”

Yau said the government should also bear responsibility besides the developer as it failed to realize the misleading information and approved the brochure. He said media successfully raised the issue and public’s concern, making developers to take care next time.

The society is claiming social responsibility of developers under hostility from the public. Yau said any companies in a free market, especially listed limited companies, take not only public but also private considerations such as the market strategies. He said time is needed to find the balance between the public and private.

“Hong Kong has changed. However, journalists and editors still have their rights to report the truth,” said Yau, explaining that media could still criticize the government and revealed the scandals of the politicians.
