(You should point out that the law forbids the same resigned legislators to run for the vacated seats within 6 months during which the pro-establishment camp might pass bills that prove to be detrimental to the pan-democrats while the students do not need to abide by the 6 month moratorium since they all are new faces.)

By-election would turned out as a failure By Cliff Ng on 4 November 2014

Chairman of Hong Kong Association for Democracy and People's Livelihood, Bruce Liu Sung- Lee, claimed the by-election is not an ideal option for democracy, the by-election can never change the political reform.

Liu thinks even if pan-democrats win the by-election, no changes can be brought to the Legislative Council. The whole situation won't be different. Based on this prediction, Liu raised his own interpretation. "Rather than the resigned lawmakers, the five student representatives should be running the vacancies of the Legislative Council", he said,"They should represent the call for universal suffrage and allow citizens to vote." The recent polls revealed that the majority of society are supporting the students representatives, he believed that the representatives can win the election with ease. He also said the Occupy Central movement may fade out in short, thus lawmakers should consider the success of referendum.
