All 7 channels of Digital Broadcasting Corporation (DBC) starts broadcasting again today, after it settled the shareholders disagreements over money injection and station running last year. Loh Chan, CEO of DBC, stated that DBC launched various channels to fulfill the needs of different groups.

Believing ‘Content is King’, the company emphasized on high-quality work.

Seeing the elderly group as a powerful spending power and an uprising force, DBC has made the elderly channel one of the highlights. There are over 1 million elderly in Hong Kong, Loh said, “It's choice and diversity.” The channel is providing discussion on health and medical issues and leisure activities. Loh is seeing Japan as a role model on this area, which has been successful in organizing such programming formats for the old for mindset changing. It is planned to work with some social-service organizations, inviting them to share the cost of digital radio sets for elderly.

To boost potential audiences, DBC is sponsoring portable digital radio sets build-in for 20 thousand taxis and minibuses starting from next month. The device includes both AM and digital channel. Installation of each radio set costs HK$1000, so investment on the project reaches around HK$20 million. ‘We still need 400 thousand more radio sets to attain our goal on market shares.’ Loh said.

Unlike traditional media, DBC also works with various media platforms. Application of apps and social networking platforms cannot be omitted. The future development of digital broadcasting is hard to predict, "We can't even foresee the future development of 4G”. As Loh referring to Pew survey "Where People Got News Yesterday", it shows that digital media and social networking platforms are the most frequent news source starting from year 2000. Loh stays optimistic towards the future of digital broadcasting in Hong Kong.
