CNEX Foundation Manager Ada Li said they recieved a smaller proportion of documentary showcase from Hong Kong, comparing to Taiwan or China, at a local university yesterday.

Li understood that there were difficulties in producing pitching to be selected. The pitching should include a trailer and a powerpoint. Then, the shortlisted one will be presented in Mandarin. She said the differences in presentating language might affect the directors to deliver their points; and thus, affecting the judges accepting their works.

Local directors Wong Siu-pong and Cheuk Cheung, who succeed in the pitching, said it was really hard to be picked up by the judges. Wong's team have prepared a three-mintue trailer with his previous self-made video.

Cheuk linked the low submissions of picthing with the low audiences. He explained that directors wanted more people to watch their works. Since commercial films dominated the local film market, it discouraged directors to participitate in documentary production. However, he believes the dominance of the film market will change one day and he hoped that more people will watch documentaries.

Li stressed that CNEX welcomes all sorts of pitching.

CNEX is a non-profit making foundation, which aids the production and promotion of Chinese documentary. The foundation will select twenty themed showcases out of hundreds to support every year.
