William Chan, Hong Kong Youth Exchange Promotion United Association Executive Director pointed out that when helping social vulnerable groups in our community, “action speaks louder than donation.”

Chan said, the fundraising capacity of Hong Kong is believed as one of the highest among developed Asian cities. Take the 2008 Sichuan earthquake as example; to help the quake victims, Hong Kong people have contributed more than HK$1.6 billion, a record high. The total exceeds that collected for flood victims in eastern China in 1991 (HK$600 million).

On behalf of impressive numbers gained in varies charity events, Hong Kong people are even being described as “one of the most public-spirited group of people” in global vision.

However, Chan worried that Hong Kong people might treat donations as compensation to missing actions, especially in such a fast-pace society. “It is just another kind of avoidance to your responsibility, if you don’t truly consider the needs of your targeted receivers.”

He encourages local teenagers to figure out the real needs of targeted receivers and make use of their knowledge and creativity, which is more beneficial to the local charity-eco development. ((good flow and angle...good work))
