Cheng: Doesn’t talk about “Hong Kong Independence”

Spokesperson of Alliance for True Democracy said he went to Taiwan wasn’t for the collusion with the leading figures of “Taiwan Independence”, they just had discussion about the democracy in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Joseph Cheng Yu-Shek said he always went to Taiwan participating different academic forums and even met with the members of Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) many times to present the idea of democracy, it was doubtful that people considered the meeting with Shih Ming-te as an act for “Hong Kong Independence”.

He said it was his independence to visit which people and “If the central government doesn’t allow us to meet with the Taiwanese to prevent any collusion, it would certainly be a self-dwarfing action.”

During the meeting with Shih Ming-te, Cheng said they discussed about Alliance for True Democracy and the democracy campaigns in Hong Kong.

Shih Ming-te is the former head of DPP and urges for “Taiwan independence” .The meeting between Cheng and Shih was held on Saturday in which reverend Chu Yiu-ming, Labor Party legislator Lee Cheuk-yan also participated in it.

Cheng said Hong Kong was the example for Taiwan to examine the One country two systems policy, if Hong Kong failed to have real democracy, it was difficult for Taiwanese to adopt the governing by China.

He said the establishment of Alliance for True democracy was to cohere the pan-democratic parties so that democratic campaigns could be well organized and parties could have appeal to gain public support for the fight of real democracy likes universal suffrage and the cancellation of functional constituencies in the legislative council.
