Cheng: Man-Network is Important to Reporters

“Man-network is important to all reporters.” , said by Cheng Ping Wah, the Chief Assignment Editor of Sing Tao Daily on the talk of Hong Kong Shue Yan University yesterday.

Cheng has more than 30 years experiences of being a journalist, and he was invited to share his experiences with the journalism major students of the Hong Kong Shue Yan University. He purposed that the wide man-network is important to the reporters, because it is much more easily to get the news sources from a wide man-network.

“For instance, one of my friends is the officer of the Public Mortuary. He talked to me that there are not enough space in the Public Mortuary, some of the dead body was heaped up in order to spare the space for more dead body. Finally I gained a lot of sources from him, such as the photos which were mentioned the situation of the mortuary and it later became the headline of the newspaper.”, Cheng explained his view with his experience.

Besides of the wide man-network, Cheng reminded the journalism major students should be careful on the journal ethic, “Reporters should report the truth of the society in an ethical way, all of the things should build up at the ethical level. ”
