Joseph Yu Shek Cheng, the spokesperson of Alliance of True Democracy, disagreed with the Hong Kong Economic Times which said that he had ignored the alliance members who were opposed to a meeting with a key politician in Taiwan's democracy movement.

Cheng said that it is difficult to make a common consensus with every pan-democratic group and it always rise out some criticism between each group on the same issue. Cheng said that if the image of The Alliance for True Democracy is damaged, is will be very hard for them to get the support from the Hong Kong citizens. The Alliance for True Democracy is an organization on the side of pan-democratic to fight for universal suffrage in Hong Kong. It was formed on March 2013 by 12 pan-democratic groups such as Civic Party and Democratic Party.

Cheng explained that the universal suffrage of Hong Kong is underling two key points which need to be clarify. The first one is there must be a fair competition between the candidates under the universal suffrage. The second one is that are there any real choices for the Hong Kong citizens to choose in the universal suffrage. Otherwise it will affect the legitimacy of Hong Kong government especially as an observing target of Tai Wan.

There are difficulties under The Alliance for True Democracy to raise fund because the industrial and commercial circles of Hong Kong are not willing to donate base on their position. And it is only a few people are willing to donate money to a group which is proposing political planning to come up with a consensus in the public on a political issue. Cheng said that The Alliance for True Democracy is planning to raise money from a banquet which is going to be organize in May next year.
