Joseph Cheng Yu Shek, the spokesperson of the Alliance for True Democracy, said the meeting in Taiwan with independence activist Shih Ming Teh aims to bring pressure on Beijing.

In response to question on whether the meeting with Shih on 19, October is lacking political sensitivity, Cheng, who is the political scientist of the City University, said "We had considered all the influence of going to Taiwan," on Tuesday. Shih Ming Teh is the leader of "Taiwan Independence League" and the former chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party. Cheng noted that in order to develop democracy movement in Hong Kong, they should not be afraid of China government's anger. He pointed out the aim of the Taiwan meeting is to put pressure on Beijing, which is after consideration.

Since the Hong Kong Economic Times had reported that Cheng ignored the opposing force of the Alliance for True Democracy, to meet up with Shih, Cheng clarified that is not true. "As I am the spokesperson of the Alliance, all of my action and speech are under the assent of the members of the Alliance" he said.

The Alliance for True Democracy is a coalition, which is formed by 12 pan-democratic groups in March, 2013. It aims to fight for a true universal suffrage in Hong Kong.--115035 2013年10月22日 (二) 20:45 (UTC)
